Our paper, linking seafloor structures mapped in the Lau Basin to shallow seismic events, was recently accepted at the journal Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems. We digitised over 4000 seafloor lineaments and compared them to the nodal planes of shallow CMTs in the region. This allowed us to determine the fault type. We used this new data set to classify new plate boundary segments, where possible. This study highlights that back-arc basins stress regimes are highly variable and are not exclusively extensional.
